Alright, everybody – it’s time for an update, especially for those of you flooding our inboxes and the comments here with messages like “Did they sink?!” or “Are they OK?” Yes, they’re very OK! Randall, Harmon, and the good ship Moli are safe, sound, and dry after completing the second leg of their Figure 8 Voyage, touching down in St. John’s, Newfoundland.
Since Randall and Harmon have apparently abandoned their keyboards (you’re welcome, gents), I, the self-proclaimed Land Ops Coordinator – and by marriage, the BWITW (Best Wife in the World of Figure 8 Voyage fame) – am here to fill in.
They may be incredible at sailing around the Americas, but when it comes to updating the rest of us on their whereabouts? Well, let’s just say I’ve sent a few messages reminding them that “yes, people are curious.” To which Harmon responded with…”its in my draft folder”. So, last week, I gave up on waiting for them and decided to write this post myself. Here’s what you need to know:
The Situation, in Brief:
- Moli and her crew safely reached St. John’s, Newfoundland, rather than the original plan of Halifax. You know how it goes in the world of sailing—sometimes the wind/weather/sea has other ideas.
- Randall and Harmon are now back on land, basking in the warmth of family and friends, and conveniently not updating their blog.
For those checking the “About the Route” page, Halifax might still be on there, but don’t be alarmed—plans shift with the tides. Moli remains in St. John’s, Newfoundland, patiently waiting for her next adventure.
What’s Next for Moli and Crew?
If all goes as “planned” (and I use that term loosely), they’ll head south along the west coast of the Americas next year. Where exactly? Somewhere around “the 50’s” latitude is all Randall’s willing to share. If you’ve been following these guys long enough, you know to expect that “the where and when” will be as flexible as the wind. But rest assured, Moli can’t stay up in Newfoundland forever; at some point, she’s and her crew will eventually bring her back home.
In the meantime, stay tuned. When the dates and destinations are clearer, I’ll make sure they put fingers to keyboards (or I’ll do it myself, again) to keep you all in the loop.
And if you want a deep dive into their most recent escapades, check out the latest issue of Latitude 38. Our friend and editor Tim Henry managed to wrangle an interview with them, which gives a nice preview of their journey so far. You can read it here.

So for now, breathe easy—no sinking ships here, just two sailors enjoying a breather. Make sure you’re subscribed so new posts will auto-magically land in your inbox as the adventure continues.
Thanks for coming along on this ride with us!
Until next time, The Land Ops Coordinator, aka BWITW
