St John’s Azores Leg
Day 3
Wednesday, June 18
Noon Position: 46 28.7N 42 20.8W
Course: SE
Wind: SW 12-20
Noon Miles: 161
Total Miles: 458
We ran all night with the large genoa and full main and wind on the beam, but instead of east, we were now headed SE on a rhumb line for the Azores. At just before midnight and having left Flemish Cap astern, we passed a large, fully lighted fishing vessel that didn’t show up on AIS.
Throughout the day the wind built and the barometer continued its slow rise to 1030mb, but Mo churned off the miles with no change to course or set of sail.
Almost like the trades, I thought, only cooler.

About noon, the water changed from a deep green to indigo blue. We are off the banks and into the deep ocean.
As if on cue, dolphins at the bow.
