Noon Position: Anchored off Puerto de San Antonio

Quick update:

We made the island of Fernando de Noronha at 3pm on August 4^th; from Cabo Verde, 1491 miles in 11 days and three hours. The bay rolls us gently in steady trades from the SE. The peaks are steep and black; the hills scrubby but green, the town, admittedly inviting…

But upon checking in, we encountered a problem. As of April. 10, 2025, Brazil, to whom this island belongs, requires US citizens to have an entry visa. This is an unplanned stop for us; neither did any research at all except to note that Noronha looked tropical with a nice anchorage and place to wet one’s whistle. We have no visas, and thus we have been denied entry beyond a day to get fuel and groceries.

We are boat bound.

Visas are in process but can take 4 – 10 days, and we cannot wait.

Plan to depart soon for Rio de Janeiro. This leg is of nearly equal length to the last and with luck should see us in port again by the 16^th of August.
